David Winmon Murphy
1940 – 2022
Born in Portland, Maine February 29, 1940 to parents Violet Marie and Winmon, Dave grew up in San Diego with his sister Andrea enjoying surfing, fishing and looking for treasure in the deserts of California, Arizona and Mexico.
Dave met and married Gail, having two sons David Jr. and Kevin. Sequim became their home in 1976.
He was an inspiration to his family, reinventing himself from a career as a butcher to learn the world of fine men’s clothing at Widsteen’s in Port Angeles and then later as manager at The Toggery. It is not an exaggeration that he may have touched just about every family on the Olympic Peninsula (and many travelers) who were measured for clothing by this sultan of fashion.
Family pets were always present and loved by Dave. Later in life, this love continued to be rediscovered with Gail as they took-up horsemanship together and raising their two “other children” their Arabian horses.
His sons were a source of pride while his grandkids, Ebony, Sidney and DJ (Schauman), along with three great grandchildren, Domonick, Zachary and Cooper, provided a sense of amazement. His extended family provided much love including his sister, Andrea, daughters-in-law, Casey and Mia, in-laws The Nasons and Blakes of Sequim, Julie Murphy and Mike Miller of San Diego, and cousins, John, Sherrie, Heather, Karen, along with the entire Cerutti family of Sequim.
A celebration of life will be planned at later date.
