Onie Morseman
July 23, 1942 – March 29, 2023
Our brother in Christ, Onas “Onie” Lysle Morseman, was born on July 23, 1942 in Sedalia, Missouri, to Vernon and Maude (Tackitt) Morseman. He departed this life to be with the Lord on March 29, 2023 in Sequim, WA at the age of 80 years old.
At an early age, Onie’s family moved to Santa Barbara, CA. From there, they moved to Bothell, Washington where Onie graduated from Lake Washington High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served a tour in Germany. At a party celebrating his return to the U.S., he met and fell in love with Sharon Carlson. They were engaged three weeks later and married six months later on June 5, 1965 at the Church of the Nazarene in Kirkland, WA.
A short time after their marriage, Onie found an opportunity for employment back in California, so he and Sharon moved to Santa Barbara. There, he worked as a lineman for the phone company. Looking for a more safe and secure place to raise a family, they relocated to Peshastin, WA (just outside of Leavenworth, WA), where he again worked for the phone company until his retirement in 1993. He then opened his own small engine repair business and also worked as a locksmith on the side as a hobby. While there, he became Assistant Fire Chief for the Peshastin Fire Department.
In 2005, he and Sharon moved to Sequim, WA. Here, they became faithful members of Faith Lutheran Church, with Onie serving as Head Trustee in charge of the maintenance of the grounds and facility. They enjoyed a number of happy trips to Hawaii together with friends.
Onie had a heart for helping people, especially when they had something that was broken that needed fixing. You could say he was “Mr. Fix-it” when it came to anything mechanical, including clocks and more. He also assisted others when he served as an EMT in Peshastin.
Onie was pre-deceased by his parents and his siblings, Florence Author, Leora Jackson, and Vernon Morseman. He is survived by Sharon, his beloved wife of 58 years; his sister, Linda Kernoul; his daughters, Tami & Jay Baity (Yadkinville, NC), and April & Jeremy Torrence (Lincolnton, NC); his “adopted” son Chris Morseman (Cashmere, WA); and his grandchildren, Amanda Torrence, Brynn Torrence, Christopher Torrence, Krysta Bridges, and Nikolaus Bueschke.
Rose Marie Sukert
January 3, 1931- April 16, 2023
Born: January 3, 1931 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Waldemar William Wagner and Rose Mary (Boulduc) Wagner Passed: April 16, 2023 at Life Care Center in Port Townsend, Washington.
Rose attended schools in Bemidji until 1941, when her family relocated to Sequim, Washington, where she was a part of the Sequim Class of 1949.
Due to illness she was unable to complete high school and graduate with her classmates.
On September 29, 1951, she was wedded to William Henry Sukert, who also had relocated from Bemidji to Sequim after serving in the US Army Air Corp. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, husband of 63 years, William, brothers Henry A. Wagner (KIA WWII North Africa) and Edward Wagner, sisters Gertrude Klein and Margaret Fuller.
Rose was a stay at home mother too, and is survived by, her four children, Floyd W. Sukert and Myong Sukie Sukert, Victorville, Ca., Kenneth D. Sukert and Kathleen A. (Bell) Sukert, Port Hadlock, Wa., Ronald D. Sukert and Gail A. (Wolniewicz) Sukert, Agnew, Wa. and Sharon M. Sukert (Young) and Michael B. (Bruce) Young, Fox Island, Wa.
She had 7 grandchildren, William M. Sukert, Adam J. “AJ” Sukert, Christopher M. Young, Susan (Sukert) Dawson, Heidi M. (Sukert) Radley, Brian J. Young and Ryan F. Sukert.
She had 14 great grandchildren: Brandon, Hannah and Mena Dawson; Awstyn, Kaleigh and Charlotte Sukert; Peyton Sukert; Braydon, Benjamin and Rylann Sukert; Henry and Emilie Young; Kamryn and Bryce Radley; and, many nieces and nephews.
Rose’s family was her life. She worked harder as a stay at home mom than any career would have presented. While raising her 4 children, she also managed the family mini-farm, tending huge gardens, raising farm animals, canning all vegetables, and fruits from her own orchards, rendering pig lard, hand milking cows and churning homemade butter. She was a strong woman who did it all.
And somehow, she found time to expand her creative side, sewing clothing, knitting afghans, hats and slippers, and even had her own kiln for firing ceramics she created. Many of her creations adorn the homes of family and friends, as she gifted most of her works. Mom loved her rose and flower gardens, at one time having 60+ species of rose bushes proudly displayed around her home.
Rose was an amazing Woman, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who will be dearly missed, but can be celebrated for living a fulfilling and productive life. She now resides in the house of our Lord God and is reunited with her family and loved ones who went before her. Until we meet again, Love you Mom.
