Richard Prokasky

Richard V. Prokasky

April 7, 1940 – October 12, 2015

A Tribute to my Husband.

Rich’s birthday to eternity began October 12, 2015.

He was born April 7, 1940 in Tracy, Minnesota to Vernon William and Alma Louise Moe Prokasky, of Norwegian and German decent. He was proud of his heritage.

He grew up in Lucan, Minnesota, a farming community in the Midwest. His father owned a chicken hatchery and in later years they owned the Corner Cafe. It was a small restaurant serving sodas, hamburgers and, of course, coffee and pastries.

When it was time to go to high school he came to Milroy, my home town. He graduated May 29, 1958. He was very active

in music, football, baseball and basketball.

He played piano, organ, accordian and trumpet. He also had a beautiful tenor voice, singing in many church ensembles and winning solo contests at school. He was a great third baseman for Wabasso and the Milroy Yankees; but his heart belonged to football. He was an All Star State Honorable Mention in 1956 but then sustained a broken leg in a scrimmage game in his senior year (1957-58); changing his career plans forever.

He joined the United States Coast Guard July 21,

1958 and very proudly served his country for 20 years. He retired as Chief Petty Officer on August 1, 1978.

He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Scott, on October 17, 1959. They cherished their 56 years together and were blessed with three beloved sons.

Rich loved the outdoors and was an avid and successful hunter and fisherman. He had many trophies as examples of his excellence.

His service record contained the U.S.C.G. Good Conduct Medal with 3 bronze stars, a National Defense Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars (designating second and third awards), U.S.C.G. Achievement Medal with the Operational Distinguished Service and expert Rifle and Pistol Medals.

He was a baptized and confirmed Lutheran, (Missouri Synod in his sweet home of record Lucan, Minnesota) and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Angeles.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Naval Elks 353 Port Angeles, Washington, serving as an Exalted Ruler.

After retirement Rich was an appliance repairman for McCrorie’s (Senior and Junior), Rich’s Repair, Sears, Western Auto, AA Appliance and Jim’s Appliance in Sequim.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Sequim; sons Todd Richard Prokasky of Aberdeen, Washington, Curt Alan (LeAnn) Prokasky and Brian Scott (Alicia) Prokasky of Winnemucca, Nevada; sister D’Ann Prokasky Newman of Tracy, Minnesota; grandchildren Vanessa Joy Mack Steward, James Curt (Brenna) Prokasky, Kelsey Mann of Seattle, Washington, Jarrin Prokasky of Reno, Nevada, Brycen Scott Prokasky and Sylvia Anne Prokasky; great grandchildren Kayden James Steward, Jeremy Baine Mack, and Coleman James Prokasky.

There will be no services at his request.

Memorial contributions can be made to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 E. 8th St, Port Angeles, WA 98362, as they are very special to our community.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dewayne D. Prokasky.

God Bless the life we shared together in our journey on earth. He is at peace after many years of struggling to keep afloat. To God; we thank you for each and everyday and will always love and miss him.

His wife Forever in Love, Carol Jean Prokasky.
