A long way to go for some competition, but they’re bringing home some trophies.

The Hastings family of Sequim, who are part of the Sequim Picklers group, and a pair of other locals joined pickleball players from across the country at the USAPA Nationals VII, held Nov. 8-15 in Casa Grande, Ariz.

McKenna Hastings teamed with sister Kendall to take bronze in the Junior Women’s Doubles division. McKenna then joined Jack Munro to take gold in the Junior Mixed Doubles while Kendall and partner Garret Parvu took bronze (third place). McKenna also earned bronze in the Junior Women’s Singles division.

Mom and Dad didn’t fare too badly, either. Doug and Allison Hastings competed in several divisions. Doug placed fourth/fifth in the 24-player Men’s Singles 35+ division and teamed with Shayne Johnson to take fifth/sixth out of 20 teams in Men’s Doubles 35+.

In Women’s Doubles 35+, Allison and partner Melissa McCurley took fourth place out of 16 teams.

Doug and Allison Hastings teamed up to take 20th out of 39 teams in the Open Mixed Doubles division, winning three of their five matches.

Sequim’s Julie Haney competed in the Senior Open Women’s Singles division, scoring a win in three matches, and in the Senior Open Women’s Doubles division with partner Laura Schwarz, also winning one of three matches.

Haney teamed with Andy Gensch in the Senior Open Mixed Doubles and won two of four matches.

Also from Sequim, Chris Goettling competed in the Mixed Doubles 35+ division with partner Vivian Edwards, going 2-2. Goettling also competed in the Men’s Doubles 19+ division and Open Mixed Doubles divisions.
