They’re at it again.

The Olympic Avalanche basketball squad, a select team of fifth-grade girls from across the peninsula, topped the field at the Puget Sound Classic, May 3-4 in Seattle.

In game one, the Avalanche crushed Federal Way Hoopaholics 46-9 behind the 12 points of Hannah Reetz and 11 rebounds by Jaida Wood. In game two, Wood had 11 points and 13 rebounds as the Avalanche cruised by Puget Sound FLight, 34-18. In the semifinals, Olympic was a nightmare for the Puyallup Dreamcatchers as they triumphed, 53-19. Emilia Long had 15 points and five assists in the victory.

In the championship, the Avalanche faced a formidable foe in the Junior Lady Reds, a Neah Bay-based team boasting four former Avalanche players (Laila Greene, Ruth Moss, Courtney Swan and Patience Swan). The Avalanche overcame an early, seven-point disadvantage to grab the lead late and hold on for a 37-32 win. Long (12 points, four assists), Wood (11 rebounds) and Myra Walker (seven points, 18 rebounds) helped the Avalanche to the title and overcame Ruth Moss’ 16-point effort.

The Avalanche, now 39-5, cap the season with the EBC Challenge in Kirkland June 14-15.
