In the long run – or the shorter ones, too – the Timberwolves were unbeatable this season.
Led by eighth-grader Alex Barry, Sequim Middle School’s boys cross country squad won all six meets this season, cruising to an Olympic League meet title on Nov. 3.
Sequim’s girls placed second to Port Angeles, with top runner Audrey Shingleton taking second in the individual standings last week.
Barry was undefeated in all six races and capped the season with a 37-second win last week, finishing the two-mile course in 11:25. Teammates Jackson Oliver (second), Peter Ohnstad (fourth), Chase Ridgeway (fifth) and Mikey Cobb (10th) led Sequim to a 20-point win against rival Stevens (Port Angeles).
That marks 12 consecutive races and a two-year unbeaten streak for Barry.
On the girls’ side, Stevens’ Dusti Lucas continued her dominance of the league with an individual win as she swept all six races. Shingleton, the runner-up, was about 30 seconds behind Lucas at the league meet. Sequim teammate Gretchen Happe was fifth, Siana Turner was seventh and Alexis Cromer was 11th to help Sequim lock up second place.
