That’s all it took from Ian Miller to shut down the North Mason Bulldogs in a 6-0 Wolves win on April 21.

Miller struck out seven and held North Mason to just three hits and a walk over seven innings as Sequim picked up a key Olympic League victory.

Gavin Velarde had a double and an RBI, Austin Hilliard drove in a run and stole three bases, and James Grubb added an RBI as the Wolves needed just three hits themselves in the win.

Sequim also took advantage of four North Mason errors and played error-free on defense.

Jeremy Carnahan had two hits for the Bulldogs.

SHS wins battle of Wolves

Sequim needed just six hits to knock off their visitors from Whidbey Island on April 17.

Justin Porter was 2-for-4 with two doubles, three steals and three runs scored, James Grubb had two sacrifice flies and Ian Miller scored two runs in a 9-3 non-league win against 1A Coupeville.

Austin Hilliard picked up the win with two shutout innings in the start, as the Wolves used five pitchers in the contest. Porter and Gavin Velarde combined for three hitless innings.

Coupeville’s Wolves, who committed five errors, fell behind 5-0 after three innings before closing the gap with a three-run fourth frame.

Looking ahead

Sequim has a busy week, playing at Port Angeles on April 26, hosting Olympic on April 27 and playing at Kingston on April 28. The Wolves round out the regular season at Bremerton on May 1 and at Mount Tahoma, a 3A Pierce County League foe, on May 3.

The top four Olympic League teams advance to the double-elimination West Central District tournament that starts May 6. The top six of the 12-team district tourney advance to the state 2A tourney.
