The Wolves are moving on.

Jayson Brocklesby and Alex Barry had 15 points each and Gabe Carter added 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds as Sequim ended Steilacoom’s season in the opening round of the West Central District boys basketball tournament Wednesday night, 62-47.

Sequim jumped out to a 13-4 lead and held a 27-14 advantage by halftime, a lead they never relinquished.

The Wolves (18-3) will play tourney No. 4 seed Franklin Pierce at 6 p.m. Friday at Foss High School in Tacoma.

The winner of that game earns a berth to regionals and advances to the tourney semifinals to play either Renton or Sumner on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Foss, while the losing squad plays a winner-to-regionals, loser-out game at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Curtis High School, against the loser of the Renton/Sumner game.

The West Central District takes six teams to regionals. Regional tournaments are played at five sites: Lynden, Kent-Meridian and Tumwater high schools, Central Washington University and Eastern Washington University.

Brocklesby did much of his damage from the free throw line, hitting eight of 12 tries, while Barry scorched the Sentinels from long distance, hitting three 3-pointers in five tries.

Fresh off an illness, Anthony Pinza added nine points, four rebounds and three assists in the win.

In other 2A district play involving Olympic League teams, Kingston advanced to the double elimination part of the bracket with a 44-32 win against Foster, Sumner knocked out Bremerton’s boys after topping the Knights 63-48 while White River ended North Kitsap’s campaign with a 55-32 victory.

Sequim and Kingston join Olympic in the double-elimination round of the district tourney, each playing Friday night.

The 1A Port Townsend girls stayed alive in their district tourney with a 42-38 win against Overlake (Redmond).
