Boys basketball: Wolves outlast Bulldogs for first league victory

Sequim saw a big third quarter lead whittled away by the host North Mason Bulldogs, but rebounded just in time for a 60-56 win in Belfair on Dec. 15 for their first league victory.

Lars Wiker was 4-for-5 from 3-point range and had a team-high 18 points, while Charlie Grider had a big all-around game with 17 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Keenan Green was scoreless from the field but led the team with 12 rebounds and six assists, and chipped in five points from the free throw line.

Isaiah Moore, in his first game back from a preseason injury, added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Reid Williams paced North Mason with 20 points and Julian Betancourt added 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a losing effort.

Sequim led 15-6 after one quarter and 27-19 at halftime before the Bulldogs chipped away to tie the game early in the fourth quarter.

The Wolves held a big advantage in the middle, however, out-scoring their hosts 28-14 in the paint and 18-2 on second chance points. Sequim had 15 offensive rebounds in the win.

Sequim (1-3 in Olympic League, 2-4 overall) also dropped an 82-60 decision at home on Dec. 19 to league powerhouse North Kitsap. The game was originally slated for Dec. 13 but was postponed because of of illnesses.

Moore led the Wolves with 23 points.

Sequim is scheduled to host WF West on Dec. 27 and Granite Falls on Dec. 29 before playing at Sumner on Dec. 30.
