Boys basketball: Wolves rebound with big win after first loss of season

The Sequim boys basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the year last week with a resounding 68-40 win over Kingston at home on Jan. 17.

The Wolves looked like they were in trouble at halftime, down 27-26 against the Buccaneers. But they completely dominated the second half, outscoring Kingston 42-13 over the final 16 minutes.

Leading the way for the Wolves was Jericho Julmist, who hit three 3-pointers and scored 25. Ethan Melnick also hit three 3-pointers and scored 15, while Jamison Gray had a solid game with 10 points.

Sequim (7-1, 11-1) next hosts North Mason (4-4, 7-6) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and they travel to Bainbridge on Jan. 24.

The Wolves defeated North Mason 76-48 on Dec. 10, and Bainbridge on Dec. 13 69-46.

First loss

High-powered Bremerton broke open a close contest on Jan. 14 at home after halftime and handed previously undefeated Sequim its first loss of the season 77-60, in a showdown for the top spot in the Olympic League boys basketball standings.

Julmist scored 29 for the Wolves and Solomon Sheppard added 18, but it was tough going for much of the night for the rest of the Sequim roster.

Knights star Jalen Davis was recognized for scoring his 1,000th career point in the first half. The son of head coach Miah Davis, Jalen recorded 32 points, 11 in the third quarter, as Bremerton took control heading to the final frame.

It was the first time this season that the Wolves had yielded more than 50 points in a contest.
