Playing in front of a sparse crowd in an afternoon league match-up Monday, Sequim’s boys basketball squad roared to a 19-4 lead after one quarter and didn’t let up in a 53-39 win over visiting Olympic.
The victory helped SHS (2-4 in league, 3-7 overall) snap a two-game slide incurred last week as they prepare for a couple of tough opponents later this week.
Sequim hosts perennial powerhouse North Kitsap (6-0 in league, 11-1 overall) on Jan. 20, and is at Bremerton (3-0, 4-2) on Jan. 22.
Against Olympic, Isaiah Moore led all scorers with 21 points while Keenan Green added 10.
Four Sequim players knocked down seven 3-point attempts, with Green connecting on three and scoring 10 points. Zach Thompson also hit a pair from outside while Kristian Mingoy and Pryce Glasser also connected from long range.
“I thought our bigs played well and were able to find each other and our shooters on the perimeter,” Wolves coach Greg Glasser said.
Spartans, Warriors upend SHS at home
The Wolves returned to the floor after a COVID-related pause for two home losses in contests with Olympic League foe Bainbridge and Class 2B foe Crosspoint last week.
Sequim got 16 points apiece from Moore and Pryce Glasser, but the 3A Bainbridge Spartans proved too tough in a 65-44 decision in Sequim.
A day later, Moore tallied 19 points and Glasser added 15, but the visiting Warriors edged the host Wolves 63-62.
Former Sequim standout Derrick Doty coaches the Warriors. Doty led Sequim to its lone state championship game appearance against Rainier Beach in 1988.
Doty’s son Thunderr led all scorers with 24 points.
