Boys basketball: Wolves top Knights for fourth league win

Exacting a bit of revenge to a league loss earlier this season, Sequim’s boys defended their home court with a solid 60-49 win over Bremerton on Jan. 17.

Vince Carrizosa led a balanced Sequim offense with 14 points, knocking down a trio of 3-pointers in the third quarter.

Isaiah Moore added 12 points, nine in the first half, while Zack Thompson had eight and Cody Smithson had six.

Samuel Tucker led the Knights with 23 points, 15 of those coming in the first half.

Two days later, the Wolves dropped an 87-49 decision to league-leading North Kitsap in Poulsbo, giving the Vikings a season sweep.

The defeat leaves Sequim with a 4-6 record in the Olympic League, tied for fourth with Olympic’s Trojans — and 6-10 overall.

Coming up

Sequim was scheduled to host North Mason on Jan. 24 — results were not available at press time.

The Wolves are at Kingston on Jan. 27 before closing the regular season with two home dates: Jan. 31 against Olympic and Feb. 2 against Port Angeles.

The Feb. 2 match-up is a doubleheader with Sequim’s and Port Angeles’ girls teams. The girls play at 5:45 p.m., followed by the boys’ game.

The West Central District tournament will feature 16 teams from Olympic, South Puget Sound and KingCo leagues set for Feb. 15-18. The opening two rounds are at higher seeds, with championship semifinal/final games played in Belfair and consolation semifinal/final match-ups in Tacoma. Six teams move on to the state 2A tourney.
