The Wolves (1-1) slammed home a 63-42 win over Klahowya (0-3) on Dec. 4.

Senior Jackson Oliver led Sequim with 21 points in the non-league win including a momentum-swinging slam dunk in the second quarter.

The Wolves led through the first but the Eagles stayed close behind 11 points from senior Payton Ryen.

Troy Potter gave the Eagles their only lead of the game at 13-12 with a bucket to start the second quarter but Oliver responded with a bucket and put the Wolves up for good.

The big swing came for Sequim following a block by Payton Glasser in the low post which led to his bucket with about 4:15 to go in the second quarter. Oliver followed the play with a steal and a dunk that ignited the crowd.

Freshman Kyler Rollness kept the energy high sinking a three-pointer before halftime to put the Wolves up 33-16.

Scoring stayed high in the second half with both teams keeping pace at 16 each in the third quarter, including eight from Oliver. Sequim’s biggest lead of 22 points came early in the second half before the Eagles began trading buckets. The third quarter ended at 49-32.

Oliver had his second career dunk late in the third quarter but he was fouled hard during his delivery.

Payton Glasser, who finished with 15 points, scored four points in the fourth and at least once in every quarter for Sequim.

Nick Faunce attacked the glass throughout the night grabbing 12 rebounds, and Jack Shea, celebrating his 18th birthday, snagged eight boards while both seniors scored six apiece.

Oliver finished 8-of-18 from the field, Glasser 7-of-11.

Shea said the win felt great especially after a tough 70-36 opening season loss at class 3A Mount Tahoma on Dec. 2.

“I felt like it brought the team together especially before a tougher opponent like Bremerton on Tuesday,” Shea said. “In Tahoma, there was a lot of pressure. It was good to come home and start out the season with a win. It helps our confidence a lot.”

Shea and coaches mentioned that they made more effective passes on Friday with nine assists compared to three against Mount Tahoma.

Against Mount Tahoma, Demetrius Smith led three Thunderbirds in double figures with 19 points. The Wolves kept it close for a quarter, battling to a 10-10 score after one quarter. But the T-Birds outscored Sequim 29-11 in the second quarter and 16-2 in the fourth.

Payton Glasser was the lone Wolf in double figures with 11 points. Oliver and Shea had six points each and Faunce added five.
