Boys swimming: Ellefson earns return ticket to state in 200, 500

This Wolf is swimming back to the state prep finals.

Sequim High School junior Colby Ellefson is making his second appearance at the state meet in as many seasons after strong finishes at the West Central District meet, held Feb. 10-11 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

Ellefson placed third overall in the 500 freestyle with a 5:18.99 finish, improving his preliminary time by more than four-and-a-half seconds.

Ellefson also earned a state berth with a fourth place swim in the 200 free. He nearly matched his preliminary time with a mark of 1:57.80.

On the strength of those two swims, Sequim placed 14th as a team at the district meet with 23 points.

Port Angeles placed fifth with 90 points. Olympic League powerhouse North Kitsap won the meet with 253 points.

As a sophomore, Ellfeson swam to a 12th place finish in the 500 and 15th in the 200.

Ellefson competes with the Port Angeles High School team during the regular season and represents Sequim High during the postseason under SHS coach Britt Hemphill.
