Colby Ellefson continues to write the Sequim High records books — and on the biggest prep stage.
The Sequim High School junior broke school records in both 200 free and 400 free events at the state 2A boys swim meet in Federal Way last week.
Ellefson set an SHS standard in the 500 free last season at districts, breaking a three-year-old mark set by Kaleb Needoba, and bettered that at last year’s state meet with a 5:17.16. At this year’s state meet, Ellefson shattered the mark with a 5:11.32 effort in the preliminaries — a full 7.5 second better than his 2023 district mark — to qualify for the 500 free A final.
There, Ellefson finished in 5:16.55 for eight place overall.
In the 200 free preliminaries, Ellefson swam a 1:54.51, eclipsing Needoba’s 2020 mark of 1:54.87, to qualify for the B final.
In the 200 final, Ellefson broke his own new record with a 1:54.42 finish for 10th place.
Ellefson’s efforts scored 18 points for Sequim to place 25th in the team standings.
Port Angeles’ Roughriders, Ellefson’s teammates during the regular season, placed 16th in the team standings.
