A three-set win in a match earlier this season gave Sequim a key win against a league foe. Last week, the Wolves were on the other end of another cliffhanger.
Bremerton handed Sequim its first loss on Sept. 13 after winning a doubles match and all three singles match-ups — including one in a third-set tiebreaker.
The Wolves (2-1 in league play, 4-1 overall) started the week with a 7-0 sweep at Chimacum. Damon Little won his first singles match of the year while Thomas Hughes and Liam Payne added a win in No. 1 doubles play. Sequim won two matches by forfeit and lost just one of 11 sets.
On Sept. 12, Sequim kept things rolling with a 6-1 home win over Kingston. SHS’s Blake Wiker topped Ryan Gudea 6-0, 6-1, while Thomas Hughes and Raymond Lam remained undefeated on the season in singles action with 6-0, 6-0 wins over Tyler Krantz and Noah Delas Reyes. Little and Payne topped Tyler Bates and Tristan Schmid in No 1 doubles action, 6-1 and 6-2. Henry Hughes and Dustin Koch won in straight sets in No. 3 doubles play.
Against Bremerton the following day, however, the Knights’ Garrett Lawson topped Wiker 6-0, 7-6 (9-7), Mejia outlasted Thomas Hughes 7-5, 6-3, and Colby Williams upended Lam 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4-3). Bremerton also won in No. 2 doubles play.
Little and Payne picked up a win in No. 1 doubles play, as did Koch and Henry Hughes at No. 3 doubles and Nate Despain and Ryan Tolberd on No. 4 doubles play.
