Sequim’s Wolves got their 2024 season off to a winning start last week with a pair of Olympic League wins by the slimmest of margins.
SHS opened with a 4-3 win over visiting Kingston on Sept. 10. Sequim swept all three singles matches, with No. 1 Jack Crecelius overcoming a first set loss to top Joshua Van Huis 3-6, 6-1 and 6-0. Zack Post and Isaac McKeen both won in straight sets at No. 2 and 3, with Post topping Ryan Steel 6-0, 6-0 and McKeen cruising past Joseph Munns 6-1, 6-0.
Returners Lincoln Bear and Mason Rapelje clinched the win at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ben Decker and Dean Kirkpatrick, 6-1 and 6-2.
Lucas Enges and Tegan Kurtze nearly pulled off a win at No. 4 doubles but fell in a tiebreaker.
Two days later, the Wolves (2-0) earned another 4-3 home win, this time over North Mason.
Crecelius earned the lone Sequim singles victory, a 6-3, 7-5 win over Yariel Barajas.
Bear and Rapelje didn’t lose a point in winning at No. 1 doubles over Bulldogs Sean Goodwin and Greg Huffman, while Enges and Wyatt Perez teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles, a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jerome Acosta and Armyo Marsh.
Sequim got their fourth victory at No. 4 doubles by forfeit.
The Wolves were scheduled to play at Bainbridge on Sept. 17; results were not available at press time.
