Boys tennis: Wolves earn split with Riders, Knights

One day after falling to their rivals, Sequim’s boys tennis squad rebounded with a one-point win on the road.

Garrett Little and Lincoln Bear won their singles matches and the Wolves (6-7) got victories at No. 3 and No. 4 doubles to knock off Bremerton 4-3 on Oct. 12.

Little dominated in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Joseph Cao to improve to 12-0 on the season, while Bear also earned a straight set win (6-1, 6-0) over Steven McIntyre.

Isaac McKeen and Zach Post added a 6-4, 6-4 win over Bremerton’s Jeremy Madlangbayan and Jamar Montemayor, and Mason Rapelje and Ryan Stites clinched the match win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Bradley Maige and Jaxsen McCrimmon.

On Oct. 11 at home against Port Angeles, Little and Bear had singles victories but the deep Roughriders crews won the other matches for a 5-2 league win. Little upended C.J. Elliott 6-1, 6-0, while Bear survived a 7-6 (7-2) first set and topped Carter Gunderson 6-1 in the set second for a victory.

Looking ahead

The Wolves were scheduled to complete their regular season Oct. 16 at Olympic; results were not available at press time.

Sequim’s top singles and doubles players compete for postseason berths at the Olympic League tourney set for Oct.20-21 at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo.

The West Central bi-district tourney is set for Oct. 27-28 at the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center, with the top six singles and top six doubles teams advancing to the class 2A state tournament to be played in May.
