Sequim High’s boys tennis team picked up its first win of the year against a severely-depleted North Mason team on Sept. 13.
The Bulldogs offered just two doubles teams as competition as Sequim (2-3) swept the match, 7-0.
Sequim’s No. 1 doubles team of William Hughes and Tom Laschet won 6-4, 6-2, while Sequim’s No. 2 team of Sebastian Buhrer and Lincoln Bear won 6-1, 6-1.
A day later, the Wolves got a strong effort from the entire roster in a 5-2 win at Kingston on Sept. 14. Garrett Little topped Buc ace Josh Vanhuis 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Mason Rapelje got his first on-the-court win with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Joey Munns. The Wolves won three of four doubles matches as well, as Hughes and Laschet swept Jonny Fortenbacher and Cean Kirkpatrick 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 2 doubles, Bear and Hunter Tennell topped Ben Decker and Aiden Mattson 6-2, 6-4, and at No. 4 doubles, Isaac McKeen and Zach Post topped Levi Boyd and Ryan Steele for their first match win of the season.
Earlier in the week, North Kitsap showed its league dominance with a 6-1 win over visiting Sequim, losing just three combined points in three singles and three doubles matches. Little posted SHS’s lone win, a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Indigo Gallagher-Zapf.
Sequim was scheduled to host Olympic on Sept. 19 — results were not available at press time. The Wolves take on East Jefferson at home on Sept. 20 and play at Port Angeles on Sept. 21.
