College soccer: Peninsula women win, men earn draw at Shoreline

Peninsula College’s women earned another early-season blowout with an 8-0 road win at SHoreline on Sept. 9.

After a relatively quiet first half that saw Jordyn DiCintio and Maddy Parton nitch goals, the Pirates exploded for six second-half scores.

Taylor Graham had two scores while Parton, Emelie Small, Brianna Duran and Tatiana Hagan added goals.

Peninsula (1-0-0 in conference, 4-0-0 overall) peppered the Dolphins with 30 shots on goal and nine corner kicks; Shoreline (0-2-1) managed just one shot.

The PC women have out-scored opponents 24-4 in four matches this season.

Men earn draw versus Shoreline

Peninsula’s men earned a win and a draw last week, opening with a 4-2 victory at Pierce on Sept. 5.

Juan Carrillo opened the scoring at 32 minutes with an unassisted goal, and Joey Hollimon converted a penalty kick seven minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Cesar Gervacio made it 3-0 just before halftime, with Hollimon getting the assist.

Pierce made it a game with scores at 65 and 67 minutes, but Gervacio found Holimon for a score just before the final whistle.

Gervacio tallied a first-half score but the host Shoreline Dolphins (2-1-1) found an equalizer in the second half as the teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Sept. 9.

Gervacio, who has four goals on the young season, took a feed from Manuel Galiano and pushed it past Dolphin keeper Genero Ruiz just before halftime.

The game stayed tied until the 62nd minute when Pedro Castro knotted the score.

Peninsula (0-0-1 in conference, 2-1-1 overall) put 15 shots on goal to Shoreline’s two.
