Corss country: Timberwolf boys fourth at league final

Sequim Middle School’s cross country teams capped their seasons at the Olympic League Championship meet at Port Angeles’ Lincoln Park on Oct. 29, with Timberwolf eighth-grader Colby Ellefson placing second overall.

Ellefson finished the 2-mile course in 11:47 —just seven seconds back of league champ Matthew Fee of Poulsbo — and helped the Timberwolves place fourth out of seven competing teams. Sequim teammate Hunter Halverson was 11th (12:29).

Bainbridge Island’s Woodward Middle School won the team title with 36 points, followed by Poulsbo (49), Port Angeles’ Stevens (73), Sequim (86), Kingston (111), Queen of Angeles (184) and Port Townsend’s Blue Heron (202).

On the girls’ side, Timberwolf eight-grader Kaitlyn Bloomenraider was sixth overall with a 13:16, while SMS seventh-grader Aspen Goldner was 59th (17:23) as Sequim’s lone competitors.

Seventh-grader Mairin O’Brien edged teammate Lily Curtis by 0.22 of a second (2:49.61 to 12:49.83) to lead Woodward to a win the team standings with 19 points. Poulsbo (60) was second, followed by Stevens (87), Kingston (101) and Forks (103).
