After a long season of running, four Wolves are still on the course.
Three Sequim boys and one Sequim girl legged out state meet-qualifying runs at the West Central District cross country meet on Oct. 27, and look for strong finishes when they compete with the best 2A runners at the prep finals Saturday in Pasco.
Sequim senior Murray Bingham raced to a third place finish Saturday at Chambers Bay Meadow Properties in University Place with a 16:52 finish, about 17 seconds back of district champ Zach Koivisto of Steilacoom and 10 seconds back of Kingston’s Stefans Lusis.
SHS teammate Liam Byrne was 22nd with a 17:48 mark and Jazen Bartee, a fellow senior, was 42nd with an 18:15 mark, a season (5k) best; both advance to state.
There they’ll be joined by freshman Riley Pyeatt, who finished fourth overall in 19:31 — a personal best and just 11 seconds back of district champ Lauren Larson of Port Angeles.
On the boys’ side, Sequim just missed out making state as a team, finishing eighth; the top six go to state.
SHS freshman Koda Robinson was 58th (18:47) while Sequim seniors Jakob Pyeatt (62nd, 18:50), Fischer Jensen (65th, 18:54) and Alec Shingleton (92nd, 19:30) rounded out Sequim’s competitors.
Bingham placed ninth at last year’s district meet and was 76th at state. Byrne was 104th and Bartee 137th at last year’s state meet.
Port Angeles’ boys placed fourth and advance to the state 2A meet.
On the girls’ side, bolstered by Larson’s effort and Kynzie DeLeon’s fifth-place finish, Port Angeles’ girls are district champs.
Sequim’s girls placed 15th out of 17 teams.
The Wolves’ Jessica German was 66th with a 24:21 finish, followed by Aidyn Shingleton (84th, 25:10) and Emily Silva (85th, 25:13), Katelynn Glass (100th, 26:13), Katherine Stamme (118th, 28:49) and Lesea Pfeffer (120th, 31:30).
The state 2A meet is Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
