A last-minute venue change couldn’t keep Sequim’s Wolves boys from dominating an Olympic League meet on Oct. 2.

Sequim’s depth was on display as the Wolves swept places 3-8 — Brendon Despain, Peter Ohnstad, Mikey Cobb, Chris Jeffko, Jackson Oliver and Christian Ash — to topple Port Angeles and host Port Townsend.

Originally scheduled for a Port Angeles venue, construction moved the meet to Port Townsend’s wet, muddy and hilly Discovery Bay Golf Course. That didn’t seem to bother Sequim’s Wolfpack, nor Port Townsend’s Ryan Clarke (first place) nor Port Angeles’ Peter Butler (second).

Sequim’s boys tallied 25 team points, well ahead of PA’s Roughriders (47) and the Redskins (71).

Sequim’s boys junior varsity squad also dominated, taking five of the top eight places. Oscar Herrera (first), August O’Shea (second) and Wendall Lorentzen (third) led the way.

On the girls’ side, Port Angeles led the way after sweeping the first five places, led by Willow Suess (21:49). Sequim edged Port Townsend for second place.

Freshman Erin Vig was Sequim’s top runner, placing sixth with a 24:18 finish. Alexis Cromer was 13th, Elizabeth Rosales placed 14th and Siana Turner was 15th.

At Saturday’s Curtis Invite at University Place, Cobb was the top Wolf with and 18th-place finish out of 237 runners, helping Sequim place seventh in team scoring. Cobb finished the 5,000-meter course in 16:36. Despain was just 17 seconds behind, placing 35th, and Ohnstad was 51st overall. The top Sequim finisher for Sequim’s girls varsity squad was Vig in 119th place with a time of 23:14.

Sequim travels to Belfair for an Olympic League meet against Bremerton and host North Mason on Oct. 9. The Wolves then take on Olympic and North Kitsap in Poulsbo on Oct. 16 before the Olympic League meet, slated for Oct. 24 at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course.
