Cross country: Wolves race to 15th place finish at state

Sequim’s girls cross country squad capped its 2022 season with a 15th place finish at the state 2A finals in Pasco on Nov. 5.

SHS junior Kaitlyn Bloomenrader was the Wolves’ top finisher, finishing the hilly, 5,000-meter course at Sun Willows Golf Course in 21 minutes flat, good for 49th place overall.

Liberty Mavy, a sophomore, was 86th overall in 22:04, while sister Sadie Mavy, a junior, placed 132nd in 23:50. Freshman Ahrya Klinger was 150th (25:29) while teammate Emma Bergmann, a sophomore, was 155th (26:45). Aspen Goldner (27:11) and Nikoline Updike (27:21) were 157th and 158th.

On the boys’ side, Sequim’s lone competitor, senior Owen Randall, placed 110th overall with an 18:29 finish.

Port Angeles senior Jack Gladfelter was the region’s top finisher, placing third in the 2A boys race in 16:01. PA’s boys took 12th overall. Kingston’s boys were fifth. The Northwest Conference dominated the boys’ 2A race, with Bellingham in first, Sehome second and Squalicum third.

In the girls’ 2A race, Sehome took top honors with 54 team points, edging out Anacortes (62). North Kitsap was the top Olympic League team at state, placing 13th overall.
