They are off and running — and quite quickly, too.
Sequim’s cross country squad raced to six top-20 finishes at the Capital Invite in Olympia on Saturday, Sept. 8, their top collective finish since 2005.
Senior Adrian Clifford placed ninth among all seniors with a top Sequim time of 12:45 for the 2.33-mile course.
Races at the Capital Invite are divided by grade level.
Sophomore Mikey Cobb was the top Sequim runner by place, taking eighth among juniors with a 13:14 finish, followed closely by teammate Peter Ohnstad at 13:44. Alex Barry was a minute behind, placing 34th.
Sequim brought a large freshman contingent to the boys’ race, with Chris Jeffko taking 12th (13:57) and C.J. Daniels placing 14th (13:59).
Dylan Chatters was Sequim’s top junior, placing 30th.
Jasmine McMullin led the Sequim girls with a 16th place finish (16:45), followed by Amelia Ohnstad in 24th (18:23), Emma Barrell in 28th (19:15) and Natalie McMurray in 30th (19:20).
Freshman Emily Webb placed just outside the top 20, taking 21st with an 18:44 mark.
The Wolves are at the Salt Creek Invite in Port Angeles on Sept. 15 and follow that up with their first league meet on Sept. 19, taking on Klahowya and host Bremerton.
Sequim is at the Three-Course Challenge in Seaside, Ore., on Sept. 22.
