Sequim girls basketball (2-6, 3-9) opened play last week with a big 61-23 win over Bremerton on Jan. 14 at home.
Sophomore guard Gracie Chartraw dominated play to record a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Coach Joclin Julmist said “the girls worked hard tonight and had fun while playing” and that Chartraw “did a great job looking for her teammates.”
The Wolves kept the Knights scoreless in the first quarter (9-0) and went up 41-7 at halftime. In the second half, play was much closer than the score indicated with the Wolves outsourcing Bremerton 20-16.
Freshman Kaiya Robinson had a season high with 17 points, with three 3-pointers, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior Libby Turella had 10 points and her strong defense led to five steals. Junior Hailey Wagner also grabbed a team high 11 rebounds.
Sequim outrebounded the Knights 32-23.
Close against Kingston
Sequim hung tough with Kingston on Friday, Jan. 17, but fell in a close one 51-46.
Julmist said it was a tough loss.
“We were right there,” he said. “(It’s) just the little things are holding us back. The girls worked hard.”
Hailey Wagner led the Wolves with 19 points and nine rebounds in her best game of the year. Turella had nine points and four rebounds, while Taylor Heyting had six points and 13 rebounds. Chartraw had seven points and five steals.
Sequim plays at North Mason Tuesday after press deadline, and Friday at Bainbridge.
The Wolves lost both of their games earlier in the season against those teams at home.
