Girls basketball: SHS’s Julmist, Bates compete in postseason hoops contests

Adding to a storied prep basketball season, Sequim High seniors Hannah Bates and Jelissa Julmist took part in a pair of postseason all-star contests in mid-March.

Bates scored 13 points and Julmist added seven for the Cascade team, who lost a nail-biter to the Puget Sound squad, 47-46, at the West Sound All Star Game on March 14 at Bremerton High School. Also competing was SHS senior Sammie Bacon.

The Cascade team, featuring players from 2A schools Sequim, Port Angeles, Bremerton and Olympic, got a game-high 14 points from Port Angeles standout Anna Petty. The Puget Sound team featured players from 4A South Kitsap, 3A Bainbridge and Central Kitsap, 2A North Kitsap and 1B Crosspoint.

On March 18, Julmist led her 2A squad with 18 points in an All-State game at King’s High School in Seattle on March 18, in a 78-71 loss to 1A all-stars.

Julmist was 7-of-13 from the field and 2-of-6 from 3-point range; she added five rebounds.

Bates had four points, five rebounds and two steals.
