Girls bowling: Big first games fuel SHS wins over Olympic, North Mason

Strong opening games propelled Sequim High’s bowling squad to wins over Olympic and North Mason last week, as SHS improved to 3-4 on the season.

Against Olympic on Nov. 28, Victoria Nava (167 pins) and Morgan Kayser (164) posted season-best efforts while Skylar Kryzworz (150), Nikoline Updike (147) and Kimberly Heintz (134) had solid scores to lead Sequim to a 762-584 win in game one.

Kayser (147) and Heintz (139) led the Wolves to a win in game two, 604-476, while the Wolves and Trojans split the Baker-format games, and SHS won the overall pin count for a 6-1match win.

Two days later, the Wolves started strong once again with a 685-638 win in game one. Kayser improved her season-best with 169 pins, backed by Updike’s 158 and Heintz’s 130.

In game two, despite a strong game from Updike (161 pins), the Bulldogs edged Sequim 630-600.

Sequim rebounded to post decisive victories in the Baker games, 148-114 and 160-101, for a 5-2 win

Sequim was scheduled to play rival Port Angeles on Dec. 4 — results were not available at press time.

The Wolves host league powerhouse Klahowya on Dec. 7 and play at North Mason on Dec. 12, their final match before Winter Break.
