Girls: SHS’s Johnson makes cut, places 36th at state tourney

Sequim’s Ava Johnson earned a place among Washington state’s top 2A golfers and placed 36th overall at the class 2A state tourney at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake on May 21-22.

Johnson, a senior, shot a first round 96 to make the first day cut by a stroke, thanks to a pair of pars on her final two holes. She shot a 102 in the second day to finish with a 198, placing 36th in the tourney that featured 80 competitors.

Teammates Emily Post, a senior, and Raimey Brewer, a sophomore, missed the second day cut. Post shot a 100 on day one, missing the cut by three strokes, and placed 45th. Brewer was 69th overall with a first day round of 109.

Melia Cerenzia, a sophomore from West Valley (Spokane), who a two-day 146 to take the 2A title, topping juniors Jayme Dwight of Ephrata and Lexie Mahler of White River by four strokes.
