First-year Sequim coach Victor Lancheros said before the season he’d be happy to see his Wolves win half their games and even more so to see Sequim earn a berth in the district tourney.
Make that one out of two.
Sequim dropped a 6-1 decision to Orting in the preliminary round of the West Central District 2A playoffs at Silverdale Stadium on Oct. 31, ending the Wolves’s 2012 campaign just two victories short of the state tournament.
Orting held a 4-0 lead by halftime.
Vianey Cadenas scored the lone goal for the Wolves, ripping a 35-yard free kick for a score after Sequim was fouled.
Sequim co-coach Julie Lancheros said senior Lauren Bell had about five shots on goal in the final few minutes while Torrie McIntyre had a couple of great saves in the second half.
Sequim finishes the fall season with a 5-10-2 overall record.
Despite the sub-.500 record, Sequim saw a three-win improvement from 2011 and scored 11 goals in their eight Olympic League games, seven more than they scored last fall.
Leslie Cisneros led the Wolves with seven goals while Cadenas had five and McKenzie Bentz had four.
Lindbergh knocked off Orting 3-1 on Saturday for the West Central District’s No. 3 seed to state.
North Kitsap (No. 2 seed), Klahowya (No. 5) and Kingston (No. 6) from the Olympic League advanced to state after picking up wins in the district tourney.
