A pair of Wolves are headed to districts after surviving the Olympic League tourney gauntlet last week.
SHS singles players Kendall Hastings and Calleigh Thompson earned top-five finishes at the tourney held in Poulsbo on May 8 and May 11.
Hastings, who placed eighth at last year’s state 2A tourney, went 3-1 and took second place at the league final.
She opened with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Tulip Carter from Bremerton. She went on to top teammate Tiffany Lam in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) in the quarterfinals, and in the semifinals she beat Olympic’s Bailey Walton, 6-2, 6-1.
In the league championship match — and for the third time this season —Hastings matched up with Teegan Devries of North Kitsap. The Viking ace topped Hastings in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Seeded No. 5, Thompson topped Tyra Zetty of North Kitsap 6-1, 6-3, before falling 6-0, 6-0 to Olympic’s Walton. Thompson rebounded to top Ava Obernberger of North Kitsap, 6-4 and 6-2, and then topped Lam, her SHS teammate 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation semifinals, Thompson dropped a three-set match to Elaina Soboleski (4-6,6-2, 10-1) and topped Port Angeles’ Waverly Mead in straight sets () for fifth place.
Lam, seeded No. 10, opened the league tourney with a 6-1, 6-4 upset of Mead, the seventh seed, before dropping a match to Hastings. Lam rebounded to top Lauryn Hicks of North Mason but was ousted when she fell to Thompson in the consolation quarterfinals.
In doubles play, Sequim’s Dani Herman and Sydney Hegtvedt — the tourney’s third seed — went 2-2 and did not advance to districts.
Also competing at the league tourney were Sequim doubles teams Sydney Thomas-Harris and Kendall Day, and Amara Gonzalez and Payton Smithson.
