Girls tennis: SHS to finish season with rival P.A.

The Lady Wolves (5-3, 8-3) tennis squad is finishing the season strong with three wins late last week.

They traveled to Port Townsend on April 30 for a 4-3 win and to North Mason on May 2 for a 5-2 win and hosted Bremerton on May in a 5-2 win.

In the home game, Sequim’s Alice Petcheeb picked up their lone varsity singles win 6-1, 6-1 over Amy Liu while all four doubles squads won.

No. 1 doubles team Melanie Guan and Karen Chan defeated Madi Hillyer and Ilene Winkley 6-3, 6-1 while teammates Heidi Stallman and Maggie Christie and Irene Ponce and Cheyenne Solekappa nearly shutout their opponents 6-0, 6-1. Cailey Cassal/Mia Amaranto also won a shootout over Marianne Adiceam and Sophie Beninger 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The Wolves played Port Townsend at home on Tuesday and finish the season in Port Angeles (2-5, 4-6) on Thursday before the Olympic League Tournament kicks off May 14-15 in North Kitsap High School.
