Sequim’ High’s Calleigh Thompson earned three wins in four matches and placed second at the Olympic League tournament last week, punching her ticket to the West Central District bi-district tourney, scheduled for May 17-18 at the Kitsap Tennis Athletic Club in Bremerton.
Teammate Tiffany Lam, as well as Sequim’s Amara Gonzalez and Sasha Yada, are district tourney alternates after each placed sixth at the tourney.
Thompson, who was 8-4 as the Wolves’ No. 1 singles player this season, topped Audrey Cosgrove of North Kitsap 6-0, 6-1 in the league opener and NK’s Val Torres 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before knocking Lam out of the championship bracket with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Teegan DeVries, a perennial state placer, topped Thompson in straight sets in the league final.
Lam, 12-1 during the regular season at No. 2 singles, topped Port Angeles’ Emma Murray 6-2, 6-2 and Helen Rode of Bremerton 6-1, 6-3 before falling to Thompson.
She fell in her two consolation matches, to Torres and Noelle Oberholtzer, both of North Kitsap.
Gonzalez and Yada beat Allena Koch and Cloie Rosas of Kingston (6-2, 6-0) before falling ton North Kitsap’s Iliana Brockett and Tiffany Le (6-1, 6-2) in the quarterfinals. The Sequim duo rebounded with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bremerton’s Marilyn Lorenzo and Alejandra Reyes, them won a wild match of Olympic’s Kaylee Cuchman and Maynella Samonet (6-4, 0-6, 10-5) before falling in the final two consolation bracket matches.
Sequim’s doubles partners Kendall Day and Kristine Prorok earned a pair of wins at the league tourney, losing only to a pair of district qualifiers, and teammates Azlynn Judd and Keira Morey also picked up a win in doubles.
