Sequim went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the Olympic League Friday and came away with a win — but just barely — to stay undefeated in league play.

The Wolves (7-0) swept all three singles matches and needed a third set tiebreaker to take the No. 4 doubles match to knock off the visiting Kingston Buccaneers on April 13.

Jessica Dietzman earned a win in No. 1 singles play, topping Kingston’s Montana Thoroughman 6-3, 6-2, while teammate Isabelle Hugonoit overcame Sam Young, 6-1 and 6-2. Olivia Preston didn’t lose a point in her straight-set win over Kingston’s No. 3 singles player Emily Ramirez.

Kingston swept the top three doubles matches, but Sequim’s Amber Dietzman and Chloe Goldate edged Marcello Mestin and Sanni Wilder 6-2, 2-6 and 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the match.

Sequim started the the week with a 6-1 win over Chimacum-Port Townsend on April 9 and looked to take on their top challenger of the season two days later, but the April 11 match with league-leading North Kitsap was rained out and rescheduled for April 23.

Looking ahead

The Wolves were scheduled to take on Coupeville at home on April 16 and play at North Mason on April 17 — results were not available at press time for this section. Sequim hosts Bremerton on April 18 and plays at Port Angeles on April 20 before the big match against North Kitsap’s Vikings on the 23rd.
