Girls tennis: Young Wolves win opener

After seeing their season-opener at Bainbridge get canceled because of bad weather on March 14, a young Sequim Wolves girls tennis squad blanked Bremerton 7-0 at home on March 16.

Kendall Hastings won for Sequim in no. 1 singles play, a 6-0, 6-3 win over Yume Ishizaka, and while SHS’s Allie Gale and Jordan Hegvedt both didn’t drop a point in their wins over Bremerton’s Liza Allen and Olivia Schmeck.

Ruby Romano and Aiden Shingleton won in No. 1 doubles play, a 6-0, 6-1 win over Marilyn Lorenzo and Helene Rode, while Sequim’s Danielle Herman and Sydney Hegtvedt topped Lori Hall and Gabby Inglesias 6-0, 6-1.

In no. 3 doubles play, Sequim’s Tayor Herting and Payton Smithson swept Bremerton’s Anna Niles and Lauren Toth (6-0, 6-0), while Katherine Gould and Kimberly Heintz won by forfeit.

Sequim was scheduled to play at North Kitsap on March 21 and to host North Mason on March 22; results were not available at press time.

The Wolves are at Kingston on March 23 and host Olympic on March 28.

Sequim is at Port Angeles on March 30 and host 3A powerhouse Bainbridge in March 31.
