Well into a great run, the Wolves girls golfers lost their first league matchup in more than two years.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams traveled to Kingston’s Whitehorse Golf Course to take on North Kitsap on March 26 with the whole boys’ team shooting well in a victory.

Girls’ head coach Garrett Smithson said the Vikings shot their best team score of the year (270) over Sequim’s 291.

Annika Lawrence shot a 54 over the front nine, followed by Caitlin Stofferahn’s 56 and Kailee Price’s 58. Elisa Sallee sank an even 60 with Maddy Fisher shooting 63 and Brianna Kettel 65.

The Vikings’ Anna Rees shot a lights-out 49 followed by Kaylin Oster at 52, Maddy San Fellipo’s 54, Ashley Jennings’ 56, Chloe Ohnhaus’ 59 and Kaili Campbell’s 61.

The Wolves move to 3-1-1 after tying the Vikings on March 20 in a three-way match including Kingston.

Boys shoot one apart

Sequim’s boys move to 3-1 on the season after a team-wide low score effort against the Vikings.

From top to bottom, the boys were within one stroke of each other.

Anthony Pinza and Ty Jones shot 45 while Jesse Francis, Alex McCracken, Travis Priest and Jack Shea shot 46.

Head coach Bill Shea said it was a great team effort as all Sequim players beat their best opponents’ score (North Kitsap’s top golfer for the day was Riley Snook with 48).

The Vikings automatically forfeited the match with only four golfers.

The girls return to play at The Cedars at Dungeness against the Vikings on April 10 and both teams play North Mason at home on April 11.
