Claws, Paws golf tourney all set

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society is teaming up with local sponsors and golfers to help local animals at the fifth-annual Claws & Paws golf tournament, set for June 26 at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road.

The 18-hole, two-person scramble begins at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7 a.m. The event features two divisions; handicap and Calloway.

The $100 entry fee includes cart, range balls, tee prizes, longest drive prizes, KPs, raffle tickets and a luncheon, with a prize field of $1,500 (based on 100 players). Tickets for the luncheon are $15.

All proceeds go to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, a nonprofit group in Port Angeles; all donations are tax deductible.

Competition on tap for $500,000 hole-in-one

The Olympic Peninsula’s four golf courses and local businesses are hosting a hole-in-one challenge worth $500,000.

Sponsored by 7 Cedars Casino, Elwha River Casino, M.V. Coho Ferry and First Federal, the event opens up a 100-yard hole at each local golf course – The Cedars at Dungeness, SunLand Golf & Country Club and SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim, and Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles – from Aug.6-Sept. 4.

For $2 per ball, $10 for a dozen balls or $20 for 14 balls, golfers try their luck at getting a hole-in-one.

Those who sink aces are entered into a final, while daily duffers who are closest to the pin may qualify as well.

Finalists converge upon Peninsula Golf Club on Sept. 10, looking to make a hole-in-one on the 150-yard 18th hole. Contestants have one swing at the $500,000 grand prize.
