Golf: Sequim girls top NK, fall to Bainbridge

Sequim’s girls won by 20 shots (208-228) over visiting North Kitsap on March 19 at The Cedars at Dungeness.

Viking Calia Corden took medalist honors with a 47 but Sequim proved too deep to beat as a team, getting rounds of 51 from Kendra Dodson and Taryn Johnson and rounds of 53 from Ava Johnson and Emily Post.

Missing their top player, Sequim’s boys fell to North Kitsap 180-195 in a match that coach Greg Glasser said was the Wolves’ best of the season thus far.

“Lars Wiker and Cody Dunscomb step[ped] up and played very well,” he said, despite the absence of ace Adrian Aragon.

Wiker paced the Wolves with a 44, one shot back of North Kitsap medalist Nicholas Smith-Cuprill, and Dunscomb had a 47. SHS’s Joey Kang and Ryan Stites each shot 52s.

For NK, Nicholas Smith-Cuprill was backed by Nick Watson (44), Evan Anderson (46) and Kaden Pickard (47).

A pair of deep Bainbridge squads swept their hosts at The Cedars at Dungeness on March 21, with the Spartan girls handing Sequim’s (3-1) their first of the season by 13 shots (190-203) and the Bainbridge boys topping SHS 154-190.

On the girls’ side, Sarah Kreigh and Grace Charantranont shot 41 and 42, respectively, to pace the field. Sequim got solid all-around play with all six players shooting56 or better, led by Emily Post (49), cousins Raimi Brewer and Taryn Johnson (51 each) and Ava Johnson (52).

Dunscomb led Sequim’s boys with a 42 while Aragon shot a 47 and Wiker a 49. The Spartans were led by a pair of Andrews: medalist Andrew Grinter shot a 35, 1 under par, while Andrew Jobs was two shots back.

Sequim is at Bremerton on March 28. Following spring break, the Wolves host Kingston on April 9 and are at Port Angeles on April 11.
