Golf: Wolves earn split at Kingston

Sequim’s girls golf squad evened its season record with a big win at home against visiting Kingston last week, outscoring the Buccaneers 222-268 on April 11.

The Wolves (3-3) got a strong effort from Chloe Tweter, who saved her best for last: the sophomore sank her first career birdie on the ninth hole that gave her medalist honors with a 54.

Her teammates weren’t far behind, with Jelissa Julmist shooting a 55, Emily Post scoring a 56 and Sara German finishing at 57. Sequim’s Ava Johnson shot a 60 and Isabella Williams finished with a 61.

Addie Northon was Kingston’s top golfer with a round of 62.

Sequim’s boys (2-4) lost a heart-breaker to Kingston by seven shots, 162-169.

Match medalist honors went to Avery Berger, who shot a one-under-par 35 — his first ever round under par.

“Hats off to Kingston,” Sequim boys’ coach Sean O’Mera said. “They played really well.”

The Wolves were led by Carter Cronin, who had one birdie along with four bogeys and three pars for a nine-hole round of 39 — despite battling an illness over spring break.

”I am proud of him for this. His round today was a massive improvement over his last round before spring break,” O’Mera said.

Lars Wiker tied his best career round with a score of 43.

“Lars is a natural athlete, and it is only a matter of time until he starts breaking 40,” O’Mera said.

Cole Smithson also shot a 43, highlighted by two birdies in a row in the middle of his round.

Rounding out the Wolves lineup was Cody Dunscomb at 45 and Kyle Sharpe at 54.
