Sequim High freshman Lesae Pfeffer took a top-10 spot in overall scoring as the combined Sequim-Port Angeles gymnastics squad knocked off host Kingston at Breidablik gym in Poulsbo on Jan. 20.
The Sequim-PA squad, including Sequim athletes Pfeffer and Elizabeth Sweet, out-scored the Buccaneeers 160.35-133.
“Despite their banged up bodies, our girls had a very productive meet tonight,” head coach Megan Monds said. “Port Angeles broke their previous team score record and finally hit 160.”
Pfeffer took eighth place in overall scoring and placed in the top eight in three individual events: beam (sixth, 7.5 points), floor (seventh, 8.4) and vault (eighth, 7.4).
Port Angeles gymnasts swept places 2-7, including runner-up Maya Wharton (34.4 points) and third-place finisher Cassandra Middlestead (33.2).
The Sequim-Port Angeles team competes Jan. 25 at North Kitsap, then moves on to sub-districts set for Feb. 2 in Auburn.
