GYmnastics: Sequim, PA athletes compete at WOWI in Auburn

The Port Angeles High gymnastics squad, featuring competitors from Sequim, PA and Crescent high schools, vied for top placings at the WOWI (Washington Open Winter Invitational) at Auburn Mountainview High School on Jan. 12.

Sequim High junior Lesae Pfeffer placed second on bars in the State Level division (4.2 points), third on vault in the Sectional Level (7.6) and ninth on the beam on the Olympic Level (8.2).

Sequim High freshman Ellie Turner took third on the bars (4.1) on the State Level whiled fellow SHS freshmen SHS freshman Danica Pierson scored 6.8 points on the vault and 5.2 on bars to place ninth in both events on the Sectional Level.

The meet saw each event divided into levels, with athletes competing against others with the same ability and skill level.

The Port Angeles squad’s next meet is Monday, Jan. 21, at Klahhane Gymnastics Center in Port Angeles; PA hosts Kingston, North Kitsap and North Thurston. The team is at North Kitsap on Jan. 24, the final league meet before the postseason that kicks off Feb. 9 with a sub-regional meet.
