Gymnastics: Sequim-PA squad upends Kingston’s Buccaneers

The combined Sequim-Port Angeles gymnastics squad knocked off Kingston 140.05-137.35 on Jan. 23, the team’s final dual meet before postseason action.

Port Angeles’ Cassandra Middlestead took second in all-around scoring with 31.65 points, with PA’s Cassidy Tamburro in fourth (28.9), Sequim’s Emma Sharp fifth (28.2) and Sequim’s Lesae Pfeffer sixth (27.6).

Middlestead took second on the bars and beam, and third on the vault and floor exercise.

Sharp placed second on the vault with 8.3 points and second on the floor exercise with 8.55 points, and placed third on the beam with 7.85 points.

Pfeffer was fourth on beam (7.8 points) fifth on vault (7.65) and sixth on floor exercise (7.9).

The Sequim-Port Angeles team’s next meet is a 2A/3A sub-district meet at Washington Academy of Gymnastics in Fife on Thursday, Feb. 1; other competing schools include Kingston, North Kitsap, Bonney Lake, Timberline and North Thurston.

The top two teams, two all-around gymnasts and eight individuals in each event move on to the West Central District meet, set for Feb. 10 at Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines.
