Gymnastics: SHS’s Sharp, Spelker finish season at state meet

A pair of Sequim High gymnasts and their regular season teammate from Port Angeles capped their prep seasons at the class 1A/2A/3A state meet in Bellevue this past weekend.

SHS’s Lucy Spelker and Susannah Sharp and PA High’s Scarlett Sullivan competed against some of the the top gymnasts in the state at Sammamish High School Feb. 23-24.

Spelker placed 69th in all-around scoring with 24.575 points, tying for 56th on the beam (8.25 points), tying for 71st in the vault (8.25), and tied for 82nd (8.125) on the floor exercise.

Sharp was 83rd overall in all-around scoring with 17.925 points, tying for 17th place in the vault (9.00) and tying for 44th on the floor exercise (8.925).

Sullivan was 77th overall (22.875 points), placing 56th on the vault (8.425), tying for 71st on the bars (6.90) and tying for 71st on the beam (7.55).

With 42.5 team points, Sequim finished 24th overall in the combined three-classification state meet. Port Angeles (22.875) was 40th.

Lake Washington won the 1A/2A/3A title with 180.15 team points to out-pace Mead (176.80) and Ballard (172.95), with Seema Borgmann of Sammamish taking top honors in individual all-around scoring.
