Boys golf, March 19: Olympic 230, Sequim 235

The Wolves boys golfers just missed a win against the undefeated Olympic Trojans on March 19 in Bremerton.

Coach Bill Shea said the teams played in heavy rains with many of the players learning how to manage the extreme weather for the first time in a match setting.

Sequim Wolves’ nine-holes — Anthony Pinza 42, Travis Priest 42, Jack Shea 47, Jesse Francis 52, Alex McCracken 52 and Ty Jones 59 — top five 235.

Olympic — Trent Ferris 37, Denver Carlile 44, Aaron Kundera 46, Sean Walters 51, Zack Thornton 52, Scott Perkins 54 — Top five 230.

Girl golfers play well in back-to-back

The Wolves played in a three-way non-league match against the Kingston Buccaneers and North Kitsap Vikings on March 20 at the Whitehorse Golf Course in Kingston. In a rarity, the Wolves tied with the Vikings with a total of 276. Sequim’s Elisa Lee took the team’s lowest score with 49 strokes, whereas the Buccaneers’ Aimee Zehurng shot 46.

The next day the girls shot lights out against the Olympic Trojans at the Rolling Hills golf course in Bremerton.

Through two hail storms, the girls moved to 3-0 in league and 3-1-1 overall shooting 278 using a team score in a double-par pickup format. The Trojans did not have enough players so they forfeited the match.
