Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said she believed her senior libero was the best defensive player in the Olympic League this season.
Last week, fellow coaches agreed with her.
Sequim’s Hannah Hudson was named the league Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2013, highlighting Sequim’s four entries on the all-league list.
Junior setter/outside hitter Alyse Armstrong was named to the first team, senior outside hitter Alexas Besand was named to the second team and junior setter/outside hitter Emily Wallner was selected as an honorable mention.
Hudson led the team with 251 digs in 14 regular season matches and 379 digs overall, including the Wolves’ five postseason matches. She was also one of Sequim’s top servers, leading the team in aces (35 in regular season, 44 overall) and was 254 of 279 on serves (91 percent), second-best on the team.
Armstrong was a dual threat, leading the team with 76 kills in the regular season and 47 in the postseason, and led the team with 276 assists in 19 games. She was second on the team with 36 aces.
Besand suffered an injury that kept her out of several games in the regular season but rebounded to lead the team in aces (14), place second in kills (43) and third in digs (50) in five postseason games.
Wallner, traditionally a hitter, added setting to her repertoire in 2013. She led the team with 84 assists in the postseason and tied teammate Kate Harker for most postseason blocks (18).
North Kitsap’s Sarah Holt was named Olympic League MVP. Port Angeles’ Madison Hinrichs, a senior outside hitter, was picked for the all-league first team.
Football
The Wolves struggled through a winless (0-10) campaign but still posted some postseason honors, placing four athletes on the all-Olympic League team.
Senior lineman Alex Serrano led the way, earning all-league first team honors as an offensive lineman and second team all-league as a defensive lineman.
Serrano, a first-team all-league lineman in 2012, helped lead a Sequim offense that racked up more than 270 yards per game in 2013.
Senior Brett Wright earned all-league second team honors at wide receiver. Wright had 52 receptions for 669 yards and four touchdowns.
Sequim junior quarterback Miguel Moroles and junior wide receiver Josiah Anastasi were named all-league honorable mentions. Moroles tallied 1,621 passing yards and eight touchdowns, and ran for another 706 yards and five scores. Anastasi had 31 receptions for 340 yards and a touchdown.
Aasron Dickson of Kingston was named Olympic League MVP. North Mason running back Tommy Marsh was named the league’s offensive MVP while North Kitsap linebacker Tyler Lee was picked as defensive MVP. Port Angeles had one player named to the all-league first team: senior defensive back Steven Lauderback.
Cross country
By virtue of their top-10 finishes at the Olympic League championships on Oct. 24, a trio of Sequim boys were named to the all-league cross country list.
Junior Peter Ohnstad finished third at the league meet, 10th at districts and 51st at the state 2A meet.
Junior Mikey Cobb placed ninth at the league meet, 17th at districts and 41st at state, while teammate Chris Jeffko, a sophomore, was 10th at the league meet, 21st at districts and 63rd at state. The trio helped Sequim place fifth at the state 2A meet.
Peter Butler of Port Angeles was the lone Port Angeles Roughrider boy named to the all-league team.
Four Roughriders were named to the all-Olympic League team: Elizabeth Stevenson, Willow Suess, Annika Pederson and Jolene Millsap.
Sequim freshman Erin Vig missed all-league honors by just six places.
