Local golfers ‘battle’ at Oregon courses

A cadre of local golfers made a trek south earlier this month for a bit of friendly competition.

The 36 golfers, split into three teams, traveled to Oregon and vied for top honors in what organizers called the Battle at Bandon.

Battling other golfers and some chilly but relatively dry weather at three course — Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes and Old Macdonald — over three days, Team Wagner took top honors. Play format was eight of 12 Stableford scores.

The winning team consisted of captain Chad Wagner, plus Jason Doig, Steve Wilson, Jake Tjernell, Louie Bashour, Danny Romero, Tim Mannor, Kyler McCaslin, Frank Catelli, Jeff James, Kevin Borde and Kyle Trussel. Wagner won overall low gross while McCaslin won the overall low net.

Second place went to Team Shea: captain Bill Shea, Kyle Stutesman, Rick Burwell, Casey Northern, Jake Lippold, Rick Hoover, Eric Schaefermeyer, Brett Moore, Brady Meyer, Robert Nute, Rick Smith and Jed Kliman.

Third place went to Tam Smithson: captain Garrett Smithson, Curtis Rose, Justin Ewing, Brendan Winger, Alex Atwell, Dustin Halverson, Al Osterberg, Mike Dupuis, Jade Tisdale, Eric Hegge, Chad Williams and Bill Rinehart.
