Madison, P.A. whip Wolfpack

It didn’t take long for the Port Angeles Roughriders to show the disparity between themselves and their rivals in purple and gold.

Make that black and blue.

Port Angeles forced 49 Sequim turnovers and dominated the backboards as they dominated the Dec. 18 Olympic League contest, 73-25.

Despite an “off” night shooting, junior guard Jessica Madison led the P.A. attack with 22 points, eight steals and six assists in the rout.

Port Angeles led 25-8 after one quarter and 36-14 at halftime.

Rylleigh Zbaraschuk led the Wolves with 11 points
Fellow freshman Haleigh Harrison did her best to keep the Roughriders from making the disparity more severe, collecting 12 rebounds and blocking five shots.

Junior Caitlin Wiker had a strong game for the Wolves, scoring six points and grabbing six rebounds. Zbaraschuk and Lea Hopson had three steals each.

But Madison and the ’Riders were too strong from the get-go. Averaging 24.7 points per game, Madison hit just two of her 12 three-point tries but her athleticism — she was two rebounds and two steals away from a triple-double — and the Roughriders’ stifling half-court defense frustrated the young Wolves into mistake after mistake.

Sklar Jones hit for 12 points and eight rebounds while Kiah Jones added six steals, four assists and four rebounds. Elise Reid led the ’Riders with nine rebounds.

Sequim is back in action Dec. 29-30 at the Mark Morris tournament in Longview.

The Wolves return to league play after the winter break, playing at Kingston on Jan. 5 and at North Kitsap on Jan. 8.
