Men’s basketball: Burton’s 27 points leads Pirates to win vs. Whatcom

Cameron Burton scored the final eight points of the first half on his way to a game-high 27 as Peninsula knocked off Whatcom on Jan. 31 in Bellingham.

Burton shot 10-of-15 from the field including 5-of-7 from 3-point range to lead the Pirates to a key conference road win.

Colby Jackson had 21 points and Eli’sha Sheppard had a strong first half with eight of his 10 points for Peninsula. Marky Adams added six points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Despite 18 turnovers, the Pirates shot 44 percent (11-of-25) from long range.

Burton is averaging 18 points per game since being inserted into the starting lineup on Jan. 24.

The Orcas, who out-rebounded PC 54-45 (including 27 offensive boards), were led by Alex Martin’s 17 points.

Peninsula is on the road Feb. 7 to take on Shoreline before a big road match-up against No. 2-ranked Everett on Feb. 10.

PC is back home to play the Olympic Rangers on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
