Peninsula College’s men got some early season experience last weekend, winning one of three games at the Skagit Valley Turkey Tournament in Mount Vernon on Nov. 27-29.
The results give PC a 2-3 overall mark heading into their own tourney, the First Federal Pirate Classic, set for this weekend in Port Angeles.
At the Turkey tourney, Peninsula opened with a 95-81 win against Northwest Indian College. Dimitri Amos led the way with 18 points as the Pirates hit 62 percent from the floor.
In the game No. 2, Peninsula’s shooting touch turned cold in a 79-68 loss to Big Bend, as the Vikings avenged a season-opening loss at PC. Pirate Deonte Dixon led all scorers with 27 points.
In the tourney finale, Peninsula battled 2014 NWAC defending champion Portland but fell in a heartbreaker, 94-91. Dixon and Ryley Callaghan each hit for 24 points to lead Peninsula while Amos had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
