Men’s soccer: Pirates blank Bulldogs

With draw, Olympic ends P.C. win streak at 11

Coming off their second draw of the season, Peninsula got back on the winning track in quick fashion.

Victor Sanchez scored in the game’s first four minutes and Erick Urzua added an insurance goal as the NWAACC’s top-ranked Pirates (8-0-1 in conference, 14-0-2 overall) topped Bellevue 2-0 on the road on Oct. 12.

Kalei Gallarde had assists on both goals.

Settling for a draw

That top conference ranking and No. 7 national ranking didn’t spell a win against the NWAACC West’s cellar-dweller.

The visiting Olympic Rangers used a stifling defense to gain a scoreless draw against the Peninsula Pirates on Wednesday in Port Angeles.

With four saves, P.C. goalkeeper Angel Guerra recorded the shutout, his sixth of the season and P.C.’s seventh of the 2013 campaign — tied for tops in the NWAACC.

Ranger keeper Jordan Hadden helped Olympic survive a barrage of shots with nine saves for the shutout.

The Pirates saw their 11-game win streak come to an end.

Looking ahead

Peninsula hosts Tacoma on Saturday, Oct. 19 and takes on rival Highline in Tukwila on Oct. 23 — a Pirate win against the Thunderbirds would clinch the NWAACC West crown.

The Pirates close the regular season with an away match on Oct. 26 at Olympic (Bremerton) and a home match against Bellevue on Oct. 30.
